NEONAP Annual "Submarine" Party What a wonderful time everyone had!  As is always the case, this day was one of pure enjoyment!  The subs were plentiful, as were the stories shared.  The setting at the Yacht Club beautiful, AND the weather co-operated.  This was just a great way to get to know each other a little better and share more parenting hints for our Plebe parents who were looking forward to Plebe Parent Weekend.

Plebe Picnic Not the most perfect day for a picnic...cold and rainy, but, there was great enthusiasm from our members and our newest Midshipmen who came to The Ledges for fun and information. Ten new Plebe-to-be's and their families attended.  The picnic provided one-on-one interaction between Plebes, their families, current Upperclassmen and our club members.  Current Midshipmen were on hand to give the newest members of the Brigade of Midshipmen from Northeast Ohio some helpful hints and encouragement.  Survival packages were given to each new Plebe and graduation gifts for each of NE Ohio's newest Ensigns and Second Lieutenants.  Mike Zets and other fathers served as chefs, and our Hosts (and Social Charimen), Diane and Dick Bush and the Kim and Greg Gulash , did a fabulous job co-ordinating the event.

NEONAP Candidates Dinner The Annual Northeast Ohio Naval Academy Parents' Candidates Dinner was held on Sunday, March 10th at the Sheraton Hotel in Cuyahoga Falls. 16 Prospective plebes and their families joined our members, three Midshipmen who were home on Spring Break, and even a few USNA Alumni for a cocktail hour at 5:00 PM and dinner at 6:00 PM. It was a lovely evening where Naval Academy Candidates and their parents had the opportunity to ask questions about the Academy to help in their decision making process. We look forward to seeing them again at our annual Plebe Picnic in June!

First Class Parents' Brunch On Sunday, March 3rd our Firstie Parents' attended a Brunch at the Lakewood home of a Class of '01 grad. They were wonderfully hosted with food and drink and later gathered to learn important info about Commissioning Week.   They were given an exceptionally personal and interesting guide of all the things they needed to know for the week.  Everyone learned a great deal and copious notes were taken by all.  The time we have shared as our sons and daughters have made their way through the Academy has been a valuable and enriching experience.  Please remember, Firstie parents, that even though your son or daughter is no longer at the Academy - NEONAP still needs your wisdom and knowledge!!  Stay with us!!

Care Package Project January 26, 2002 saw a gathering of our members at the Sears store in Middleburgh Heights. We prepared and addressed a "goodie" box for each of our area Mids.   A great time was had by all.  Afterwards, many of us shared our favorite Midshipman stories over lunch.

2001 Holiday Ball This year's ball was held on Friday, December 28th at 6:30 PM, at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights.  The evening included a cocktail hour, dinner, champagne toasts, a grand march, the singing of the Academies' Alma Maters, a disk jockey, music and dancing.  Many of the Naval Academy Parents' Clubs throughout the USA either sponsor or participate in joint holiday balls with the other service academies.  The Holiday Military Ball is the highlight of the holiday season for many Mids, their guests and, parents!

Meritorious Unit Commendation

In June of 1999, The Secretary of the Navy presented all Midshipmen at the US Naval Academy with the Meritorious Unit Commendation for outstanding performance. The MUC is a unique and rare award for any command, especially shore based.

Additional Details may be found at Meritorius Unit Citation
